working in the international engagement team at the ngo oaktree, i was a content producer and communications officer. my focus was on internal and external communications, meaning i wrote blog posts like this and helped to run social media campaigns like this. I also compiled a lot of internal communications and updates throughout the organisation.
oaktree is all about young people leading a movement to end poverty. change starts with a simple belief – that extreme poverty is unacceptable. beliefs turn into action, and enough informed action will build a powerful social movement.
working with oaktree not only gave me insight into the world of ngo’s, but was eye opening to the ethical communication of poverty, and how so many ngo’s and charity organisations fail in this area. in this role i stretched my journalism and communication skills while also renewing my passion for engaging in social and humanitarian issues.
